Job Purpose
To provide advocacy and support to women and children who have experienced domestic violence
Key Tasks
To work directly with women who have experienced domestic violence and who are living in the refuge
Conducting needs assessment of women and developing individual support and care plans
The induction of new residents, including health and safety procedures
the provision of information and support to women on issues such as housing, education, health, employment, counselling, welfare benefits, legal rights and child protection
the provision of advice to service users on issues such as health, housing, welfare benefits, education, employment and legal rights
the provision of a referral service to women concerning the above issues
advocating on the behalf of women on issues such as housing, welfare benefits, employment, health, legal rights and counselling, when appropriate
referral to the resettlement service where appropriate, and initial assistance with move on. Working in conjunction with and providing referral to appropriate family and child services around child protection issues.
referral to relevant legal and advice services where appropriate
liaising with relevant community and government groups and services
Housing Management, the allocation of refuge spaces and minimisation of void levels
liasising with housing services and finance around housing benefits and rents including weekly residents lists
the collection of non-housing services licence agreement with residents, including eviction
ensuring that housing services equipment and provisions are serviceable and available to residents
ensuring the upkeep of general maintenance of the refuges through liaison with housing services
implementing the occupational health and safety policy for housing services including regular safety checks and quartly risk assessments.
working with volunteers and students as directed by line manager
maintaining up to date knowledge on issues relevant to the residents and housing services area
maintaining appropriate records and statistics regarding residents and the refuge service
assisting in the development and expansion of housing services
attending regular housing services team meetings
communicating regularly with the housing services team
maintaining basic financial administrative systems
to be prepared to undertake occasional evening work
